To kick things off, let me share a funny and inspiring story about one of my old students, Mark.
Mark, a project manager at a multinational tech company, always found himself tongue-tied in meetings with German clients. He could manage small talk and basic conversations, but when it came to discussing complex project details, he struggled. Determined to change this, he signed up for our private online German classes.
At first, it was tough. He’d mix up words, accidentally say "Ich bin ein Berliner" in a business context, and once even confused “Verkäufer” (salesperson) with “Verschwörer” (conspirator) during a presentation. His colleagues had a good laugh, and Mark learned to laugh with them. His teacher, Frau Schmidt, was patient and encouraging, and slowly but surely, Mark’s confidence grew.
One day, during a high-stakes meeting, the lead German client abruptly switched to speaking German. Without missing a beat, Mark responded fluently. The room fell silent; everyone was impressed. The client was so pleased that they extended the contract and even offered Mark an exciting project lead position in Berlin!
But the story doesn’t end there. Living in Berlin, Mark discovered a passion for local cuisine and started a blog about his culinary adventures. His blog became quite popular, leading him to collaborate with local chefs and even write a cookbook in German. What began as a simple quest to improve his business communication had opened up an entirely new world of opportunities.
